1. Overview
Bat Bat commune was established under Resolution No. 1656/NQ-UBTVQH15 dated 16/6/2025 of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on the reorganization of commune-level units of Hanoi City in 2025, officially operating from 1 July 2025 under the two-tier local government model.
It was formed by merging the entire area and population of the three communes Tong Bat, Thuan My and Son Da with part of the area and population of Cam Linh and Minh Quang (former Ba Vi district). After the merger, the commune covers 56.43 km² with a population of 40,066.
2. Geography and natural conditions
Bat Bat lies in north-western Hanoi, a midland zone transitioning between the western hills/mountains and the Red River Delta, serving as an important inter-regional connector. Its varied terrain of hills, riverside fields and mountain foothills is favourable for diversified farming, husbandry and eco-tourism.
The commune is home to the natural Thuan My hot mineral spring, with a stable temperature of 45–55°C, large reserves and rich minerals — a rare special resource for wellness tourism and health care.
3. Economy and agriculture
The local economy is based on agriculture developing towards commodity production along value chains: dairy cattle and milk processing, free-range hill chicken, ostrich farming, tea, fruit trees, vegetables and Ba Vi specialties, alongside agro-processing, services and growing tourism.
4. Tourism and wellness
With midland landscapes, proximity to the Ba Vi mountains and the Thuan My hot spring, Bat Bat has strong potential for eco-tourism, farm-experience tourism and especially a hot-spring wellness model (mineral bathing, steam, hot-stone therapy, herbal baths) that attracts visitors year-round.
5. Signature OCOP products
The commune offers many distinctive OCOP products such as Ba Vi fresh milk and yoghurt, green tea, Tan mountain wild honey, hill chicken, ostrich sausage, sweet potato, dong vermicelli, Dao ethnic herbal tea, and hot-spring tourism services — standardized, OCOP star-rated and gradually brought online and onto e-commerce marketplaces.
6. Culture and society
Bat Bat is home to several ethnic communities (Kinh, Muong, Dao…), preserving many traditional cultural features and indigenous knowledge such as the Dao herbal medicine craft. After the merger, the commune focuses on building a civilised, compassionate living environment while preserving cultural identity for sustainable rural development.
7. Digital transformation
Following the digital transformation roadmap, the commune promotes IT application in management and administration and expands public services to the villages. This OCOP showcase and digital map portal is part of that effort — to promote local products, connect consumption and advance the rural digital economy.
